Information for Individual Users

How do I sign up for an account?

Click here to create a UserID and Password for yourself.

You will be asked to provide contact information as well as to select a Primary Investigator. If your PI does not yet have an account with us please select “New or Not Listed” from the PI drop down list and instructions you need to complete this process will be mailed to the E-mail address you registered with.

How much does it cost?

There are no membership fees or charges to maintain a user account with the BPF. For technology and service pricing please see our Services and Technologies section.

May I share my UserID with other lab members?

No, you should not share your UserID and password with another lab member. We encourage each user to have a unique ID so that we can more easily evaluate your data, help track down missing items and allow your PI and Financial Administrators to accurately track lab spending. We do realize that some labs may want all orders placed through a lab manager and therefore your lab would have a single user. This decision should be made in consultation with the lab's PI since it will be impossible to track samples, spending, etc. by individual lab member.

How do I get my data when my order is complete?

All data processed through the BPF will be posted to the “Data Files” link, available once you login to our system with a valid UserID. You may also access the Data Files system via FTP at ftp://genome.med.harvard.edu using either FETCH or a windows program such as WS-FTP. E-mail notices are sent out when new data files have been posted. Check the status of your order under “View My Orders” (also available as a link after login).

Where do I pick up my third party vendor reagents?

All reagents and supplies sold through the BPF must be picked up at the main BPF lab in NRB Room 0088. Please have your order confirmation receipt in hand to ensure the order is filled properly and to enable us to record that it was filled.

Whom should I contact if I have questions?

All contact information is listed in our section About the BPF. Please e-mail the core responsible for the service you are interested in or call the main lab number: (617) 432-7481.
